What brings women to us

Why an internal medicine practice for menopause

  • The whole chart. Blood pressure, cholesterol, thyroid, blood sugar, bone density and mood are reviewed with your symptoms, not in separate offices.
  • Evidence first. We follow the Menopause Society and ACOG guidance and tell you plainly what hormone therapy can and cannot do.
  • Weight expertise. Dr. Palagiri is board certified in Obesity Medicine, so midlife weight gain is treated medically, with a dietitian and a coach on staff.
  • Time. The first visit is 45 minutes. You will not be rushed.
  • Coordinated. We work with your OB/GYN for exams and procedures, and with pelvic floor therapy when it helps.

Your first visit

45 minutes, one plan

  1. Symptom review using a validated menopause score, so we can measure change.
  2. Medical history and labs where they add information (hormone levels usually do not).
  3. Options: hormone therapy, non-hormonal medication, sleep, pelvic floor, weight and bone plans.
  4. A written plan, a follow-up in 6–8 weeks, and portal messaging in between.

Common questions

Is this a gynecology practice?

No. We are internal medicine physicians with a focus on perimenopause and menopause. We treat the symptoms and the long-term risks that come with this stage, including heart, bone, weight, sleep and mood, and we work with your OB/GYN when a procedure or gynecologic exam is needed.

Do I need a referral?

No. Book directly online, or call or text. If you have an OB/GYN or primary care provider, we send them a summary with your permission.

Is hormone therapy safe?

For most healthy women within ten years of menopause or under 60, current guidelines consider hormone therapy a reasonable and effective option for bothersome symptoms. Some conditions change that answer, which is why the first visit is a full medical review. We follow the Menopause Society guidance and explain the trade-offs plainly.

Is it covered by insurance?

Visits are billed to your insurance as medical visits through Privia Medical Group. Medications are usually covered with a standard copay. See the insurance page.

Can I do visits by video?

Yes. After the first visit most follow-ups can be by secure video anywhere in Virginia.

You do not have to put up with it.

Most new patients are seen within 14 days, in person in Lansdowne and Reston or by video.
